Mindbelt keeps crashing Windows 7.

Post by Paramultart »

I would give more details, but I really don't feel like crashing my computer again.

Basically, every time I try to run Mindbelt, I get a vague error, explorer crashes, my desktop goes blank, and I am prompted with a Windows 7 screen asking me how I want to shut down Windows.

If I hit "cancel" instead of "shut down", my desktop is completely gone and my computer is unusable.

I've also been encountering problems with Firefox, not letting me close tabs and whatnot, and acting very strange.

Sound like a virus anyone?

Definitely. Run your anti-virus, or hit up the TrendMicro freebie HouseCall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com) and then slap it with Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials. :) Good luck!

Trendmicro Housecall came up with no threats. I must note that my computer is fairly new and has a free copy of McAfee security center, but it still runs like crap.

I really want to use Mindbelt. This problem has not been resolved, and has completely crippled my Keen modding.

Here is the error that comes up before the crash:

Win32Lib AppWindow - Fatal Error wrote:
Error code 482
CreateWindow in createWindow failed.

Well there is a DOS keen level editor. I do so hope it's not a critical problem.

UPDATE: Using Linux to run Mindbelt in Wine. Works fine.

Did you try 7's "XP mode" ? I think it would work fine.

(I upgraded to XP after trying 7's RC, so cant try it myself :)

Wow. Just ran into this error, which is pretty much the exact same problem
Para posted.

Code: Select all

"Win32Lib AppWindow - Fatal Error"]

Error code 482
CreateWindow in createWindow failed.

Win32Lib v0.70.4 17-Jun-2008
Very weird. I'll track this down and see what the problem is. I don't understand how things can just stop working after cooperating so nicely before.

EDIT: I got this error when trying to run TOM (for KeenGraph graphics).
I was able to fix this problem. I few weeks back I had a Microsoft Register Server Error, and changed a DEP setting. I checked my antivirus log the next day and found the Microsoft Register Error was a false report. However, I neglected to undo the changes I made to the DEP. So today I undid that, and now TOM is running fine again. That was quite a scare. Cheers!

Mindbelt keeps crashing Windows 7

Post by bennieRat »

I am running Windows XP and it keeps crashing a few minutes in. Its patched to the latest patch. Is there anything I can do to lessen the crashes? Will it crash less running on Windows 98SE?

Mindbelt crashing for you? Which mod are you editing?
Mindbelt has been working for me in Windows 7 and Windows XP flawlessly for a while now. :(
