Keen dreams tiles?

Post by levellord »

Where can I get Keen dreams tiles, can someone send me some?

(Id's 'extractor' did a very niceneo-cubist artwork, but no tiles.)

You can download a zip file containing tiles for all Keen games just by clicking on that link. Try it, you won't believe the results. Phone now for your free sample. Stocks limited, so hurry!

How you have got Keen tiles there in the zip? With some tool or "some" screenshot taking?

Ages ago I wrote some programs specifically to extract the tiles.

Nice! I didn't even need to know a file of all the tiles existed!

The simple answer is "none". They're not nice tools, but ones quickly hacked together to perform a single task in a specific (non-general) way.

Think of it this way: You're working on a Keen mod, and you want to test out a few of the new tiles you've made, to make sure they look okay in-game. So you create a new level file, put in a Keen start location, a few simple platforms, and the item(s) you want to test... save that level, start the game, and playtest it.

From what I understand, asking Mr. Durdin to release those scratch programs he's written would be like asking someone to compile 16 of their "test" levels and release it as a Keen mod! :-) Many of the levels wouldn't even have exits, enemies, or points--let alone a complete floorplan... and likewise, the programs Mr. Durdin's serve one specific purpose--probably without command line parameters or graphical options. :-)

We've got a few other people working on stuff... no need to push at this point. Still cool to see the possibility of Keen Dreams being edited... been a while since I played this one.

Hole in one, Xky!
A general release of these programs would not serve any purpose. However, if someone who is actively working on Keen editing utilities is likely to find them helpful, I have no problem providing them: I'm only an email away.

Well, if that's the case, then perhaps a list of these programs could be helpful to those people (so they actually know to ask you for them)...

I have the file, but it is rather too large for me to upload, have you tried Andy's modkeen v2.1 with keen Dreams support?
